Hours of planning, meetings, dialogue and effort have been put into this project \u2013 many thanks in part to pre-workouts themselves!<\/p>\n<p>Our Nutrition Content team was tasked with numerous writing projects aimed to educate consumers about pre workout supplements, ingredients and ways to incorporate their use. But the more we discussed it, the more we realized just how different our routines were. Especially when it comes to product, working out, and\u2026 life! What better way to learn more about how folks are using pre-workouts than by asking our in-house experts at Team GNC.<\/p>\n<p>I sat down with a few of my fellow office mates at our GNC corporate office, armed with a series of questions to better understand the what, when, how and why of their pre-workout routine. And what I found surprised me! For starters, we\u2019re not all experts \u2013 at taking preworkouts anyway (it\u2019s me). In fact, some of us are relatively new to the game (me again). And, if you\u2019re part of the camp who believes pre-workouts are just for gym rats and lifting heavy weights (slowly raises hand\u2026) \u2013 think again!<\/p>\n<p>But first, a little intro\u2026<\/p>\n<p>We are<b> <\/b>associates at GNC\u2019s Corporate office in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. Our roles include:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Rob Martin, Manager of Product Development<br \/>\n&#8211; Rachel Namery, MS \u2013 Manager of Product Design<br \/>\n&#8211; Lauren Green, PhD, RD, LDN \u2013 Senior Manager of Product Design<br \/>\n&#8211; Tyler McGlasson, MS, ISSN \u2013 Senior Manager of Product Design<br \/>\n&#8211; Tony Mianzo &#8211; Senior Brand Manager of Global Performance Brands<br \/>\n&#8211; Cody Kishur \u2013 Senior Category Merchant for Performance Supplements<br \/>\n&#8211; Ken Huntly \u2013 Senior Director of Merchandising<br \/>\n&#8211; Jennifer Gabelman &#8211; Senior Director of Digital Marketing<br \/>\n&#8211; James Inlow &#8211; Vice President of Store Operations<\/p>\n<p>And me! I\u2019m a Manager on our Nutrition Content team. I\u2019m also a Registered Dietitian, Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, Health Coach, and newly minted investigative reporter (adding that to the resume!).<\/p>\n<p>Join me on an adventure into the minds of Team GNC to learn their pre-workout habits, favorite products, flavors, ingredients, do\u2019s and don\u2019ts!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"container simple-block-content topMag-70 topMag-sm-40 botMag-20 botMag-sm-40 botMag-md-40\" data-cmsmodule=\"text\" data-cmsslot=\"article-cms-content\">\n<div>\n<h3 class=\"subheading\" style=\"color: #222931;\">Team GNC\u2019s Take on Pre Workout Supplements<\/h3>\n<p><b>Demographics (They\u2019re Just Like Us!)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; 10 active men and women in their 20\u2019s, 30\u2019s and 40\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not professional athletes by any means. Rob and Lauren have experience with power lifting and bodybuilding competitions. Ken and Cody enjoy CrossFit at their local box. James and I have dabbled in endurance sports like cycling, running and triathlon. But for the most part, we\u2019re just trying to stay active and healthy. We\u2019re business professionals by day and parents (to humans or pets) by night. Jen, Lauren and I are tired, busy Mom\u2019s trying to set an example for their kids \u2013 fitting workouts in whenever and however we can.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pre-Workout History and Level of Experience<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; One to 17 years, with an average use of 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 was novice and 5 was an expert, Team GNC ranked themselves on their knowledge and use of pre-workout products \u2013 the average response was four. Slightly skewed results as we\u2019re all GNC employees who are likely more familiar with performance products than the average Joe. One thing is for sure, we like to MOVE! Below are some of the activities we partake in:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Weightlifting\/Strength Training<br \/>\n&#8211; Bodybuilding<br \/>\n&#8211; Ju-Jitsu\/Mixed Martial Arts<br \/>\n&#8211; Cross Fit<br \/>\n&#8211; HIIT\/Bootcamp<br \/>\n&#8211; Kettlebells<br \/>\n&#8211; Cycling<br \/>\n&#8211; Running<br \/>\n&#8211; Chasing small children and animals (not a sport, but tiring nonetheless)<\/p>\n<p>We train two to seven days per week and, for the most part, workout in the late afternoon or evening. A couple of us like to rise and grind or sneak off for a mid-day sweat sesh.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ingredients We Love<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <b>Caffeine<\/b> (obviously)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unless we\u2019re training in the late afternoon or evening. Or we\u2019ve had (or plan to have) too many stimulating beverages throughout the day.<\/li>\n<li>Our Goldilocks range is somewhere between 100 and 250mg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8211; <b>Beta Alanine<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We\u2019re Team Tingle!<\/li>\n<li>This sensory ingredient geared to fight muscle fatigue is a must for most of us.<\/li>\n<li>When asked to describe the sensation beta alanine provides\u2026\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIt get\u2019s me up and ready to go\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt makes my hands and feet itchy\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cLove the tingles\u201d \u2013 Cody Kishur<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIt makes me want to rip my face off\u2026 in a good way\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The more beta alanine in a formula, the more we feel it.
